I'm in the US and my Simyo credit is about to expire. I have a Bouygues recharge number I bought from a tobacco store in France last year, but I don't know if there's a way to use it from the US. Anybody have a suggestion on how I can get it to work?

call 630 (not free outside France)
1
2
compose your ticket code + # key and wait (10 seconds ?)

Thanks much for your help! I was surprised that it worked from the US, but it did work after I got connected to the Bouygues roaming network in the US.

One thing to add to your instructions:

After entering the ticket code + # key, you will get a prompt to enter '1' to complete the transaction or '2' to reject the transaction. You must enter the '1' to have the ticket accepted.

BTW, I bought the Bouygues recharge ticket in France last May with the intention of using it to extend the expiration date of the card. I would recommend that anyone who has one of these cards and wants to keep it active do the same.

willemijns 25-04-2014 21:23

For this SIM card, one paid call per year is sufficient. no need to top-up if your credit is sufficient.

the official doc says you receive 2 sms (D-30 and D-7 before closing the account forever)

for me in France, i call 3 seconds every semester (cost 1 cent *2 per year)
my grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-son will empty the credit :chair::chair::chair::chair:

That's a good plan. One problem is that I can't find anything on the website that shows when the card will expire or when the last call was placed. That means that you have to track the expiration date yourself. I'm going to be in France briefly at the end of May and I wanted to make sure that the card would still be working when I got there.

Also, I don't see any options for data packages with this card. Is per megabyte billing the only option available?

willemijns 26-04-2014 14:36

it is true that they are no expiration infos before the 2 last SMS informations...

they are no data packages on this offer.

janyyc 25-05-2014 08:14

With this SIM now being simyo, what is going on with the credit? 5 EUR is only for 15 days or so, which is crap!

I still have 8.84 EUR credit left... I'll try to extend it for as long as possible until a better prepaid offer comes around, but still - I signed up under the original conditions of B&You, not simyo!

The credit on ex-B&You Simyo SIM cards is valid for 365 days since the last balance deduction.

willemijns 25-05-2014 12:19

if you bought the card on b&you during the initial offer, the name is simyo but the contract with the same core conditions as b&you remains. period.

As a newcomer to the world of overseas pre-paid deals, I’ve just read the entire B&YOU thread from top to bottom and it’s like a thrilling switchback ride with all its ups and downs! So from what I understand, the original B&YOU offer has closed; but what is the feeling about its successor from SIMYO? Is the latter considered a good (the best?) pre-paid deal for calls and data in France?
Many thanks in advance for comments.

willemijns 09-06-2014 10:49

They are better than SIMYO

willemijns 09-06-2014 10:57

FYI An (evident) unofficial sell processing is launched since X weeks on Bouygues Telecom who manages SIMYO.

This offer will disappears in 2 years max (95% probability).

willemijns 01-07-2015 15:05

Another name change in progress, please wait i check informations....

willemijns 01-07-2015 19:41

New name "Carte prépayée Bouygues Telecom", no core change in expiration
date process..... After 8/26/2015 you must go to bouygues telecom website instead of simyo.fr

I WAIT CONFIRMATION THE 26TH AUGUST.

NFH 02-07-2015 09:05

I've just received the following e-mail from Simyo:

Bonjour ,

woody1 02-07-2015 13:42

Maybe using the Bouygues website will be better. I live in the US and It would be great if I could use a non-French credit card to recharge. I'm not familiar with the Bouygues website, so I don't know how it will work out.

Thanks for asking us to the change!

willemijns 03-07-2015 09:22

new official name "Carte Prépayée Bouygues Telecom sans durée de validité"
so no core change....

Yes, one advantage is that you can now use Bouygues Telecom's smartphone apps to check your balance, instead of having to dial 630, which is clumsy as well as being chargeable outside France.

Does anyone know what the latest APN is?

woody1 02-09-2015 14:06

Sorry, I don't know which APN to use. Can you tell me which app you're talking about. The only app I can find that lets you manage your account appears to be an unofficial one. What's the name of the one you're using?

NFH 02-09-2015 21:46

The APN that I successfully used today in France was mmsbouygtel.com (for mainstream internet not MMS).

My B&You SIM cards are not getting 4G, so I asked them to swap them in a Bouygues Telecom shop. They couldn't find me on the system, so I gave up.

Motel75 03-09-2015 11:16

Looks like validity is extended by recharging only. So far, placing a call and sending an SMS haven't changed the expiration date, even though the remaining credit changes on the Bouygues website.

http://www.assistance.bouyguesteleco...carte-prepayee
Votre ligne reste ouverte 12 mois à compter de votre dernier rechargement. Vous êtes toujours joignable!

Another thing, the phone was in a drawer for a few weeks, and the first time I switched it on after it had become a Bouygues account it took a while before it was able to do anything (send/receive calls, send messages). I was afraid it had expired, but then after 15 minutes, everything was fine.

NFH 03-09-2015 11:23

Motel75 - it has always displayed an expiry date that is much longer than 365 days since the last chargeable usage. Therefore don't expect it to update each time you use it. They clearly said "vous conserverez votre ligne, vos recharges sans durée de validité".

Unfortunately, I just received an SMS warning me that my line would expire in one month - on the date listed on the website.

"Info 630. Votre ligne est valable jusq'au 19/10/2015. Rechargez en appelant le 630 (gratuit) pour conserver votre numéro!"

There's a discussion (in French) here: http://forum.lesmobiles.com/simyo/fi...10230-100.html

NFH 21-09-2015 19:00

I don't believe there's any permanent problem. Credit on one of my B&You SIM cards disappeared in December 2014 well before the change from Simyo to Bouygues. It was just before a trip to France, so I had to top up by €10. When I complained, they reinstated my original credit, plus my €10 top-up plus a €2 goodwill credit. There is obviously some expiry bug, but they correct it without a fuss

Motel75 05-10-2015 09:59

There isn't. A few days after my last post, the expiration date changed to 2018 all by itself. :-)

woody1 19-03-2016 21:43

I'll be in France for 25 days in May and I'm trying to figure out how to get the best deal for this period. I have the old B&YOU/Simyo card which is now the Bouygues card. I'm mostly interested in data and I don't expect to make many telephone calls. I will probably need about 2Gb of data for the entire period.

Does anybody have any suggestions on which offer to take?

Since the beginning, expiration dates are false.... one PAID sms, call or several kilobytes of data and you can keep forever your card....

off-topic here, create a new subject and i will answer u :)

willemijns 27-03-2017 19:02

Hello,

a new secret / hidden condition has been added without warning to this offer, i lost my credit due to that !

now, credit is not kept forever even if you call or SMS or does one DATA connexion every year, you need to load new credit (minimum 10€) every 2 years !!!

after 2 SMS warnings one week and 3 days before their own date, you lost credit and maybe you can lost your number...

Motel75 29-03-2017 14:55

Thanks for that, willemijns. Still, 5 euros a year is better than any other French offer I'm aware of. It's possible that being the only French offer with generous expiration, they got a large share of "parked" numbers that weren't getting much use.

willemijns 09-06-2017 22:24

FYI: On 14th june, roaming will be forbidden with this offer (and the day after, the EU roaming law will apply we know we know we know :dunno::dunno::dunno: )

they push out every prepaid cards / PAYG customers who want to use their SIM card outside France => pay a plan or leave us buddy !

1) You can still call outside France of course

2) This card still works if it stay in France ;)

Thanks for this information! I live in the US and only use this card when I visit France occasionally. I guess that this new policy means that I won't be able to use my SIM card in the US to add a rechargement, send a text, etc. If I can't use the card in the US, then I will have no way to extend my expiration date. Do you have any ideas about a way to extend the expiration date if I'm not in France?

Super! C'est parfait! Merci.

Motel75 16-06-2017 19:48

Well, it's the evening of the 16th here in Berlin, and my Bouygues SIM is still working fine.

Motel75 25-06-2017 17:30

And it's still working fine on roaming 10 days later. Did B&You change their mind about this? Willemijns, where was the announcement that they were going to cut off roaming?
