Airbalticcard
In post 15 fsotirop writes that airbalticcard offers a UK number. On the airbalticcard website I don't see anything that mentions this. Can someone point to the page on their website that confirms this?

Airbalticcard
In post #15 (page 2) fsotirop mentions that the airbalticcard offers a UK number, but I can't seem to find any information to that effect on their website. Can someone point me to the relevant section on their website and/or confirm that you can get one from the account management section of the site once you have a card?

plus billing per second for outgoing calls with EU (onesimcard per minute)..plus data billing per 1kb within EU (onesimcard per 10kb) plus minimum topoup just $10 .while for onesimcard minimum topup $25 plus unlimited validity of the simcard and the credit (never expire), when onesimcard's credit expire after just 10months from the last topup buying EUROSIM simcards costs half the price of onesimcard. search e bay for seller igorzzz in USA Camel platform simcards work very good on both AT&T and T-MOBILE. tested personally. Since the last 2years I have used camel-platform simcards within almost all European countries, their simcards worked at all times without any problem. their simcards are preset to register to "prefered" vodafone brand networks, but you can switch to other networks (non-Vodafone) manually. when roaming in US calling to other countries with EUROSIM: $0,45/min... ONESIMCARD calling to other countries from US: $0,49/min. incoming calls free at both cases. EUROSIM and all other based Camel-platform simcards have special data rates of 0,99 USD (0,69EUR. for euro billing simcards) per 1MB in the following countries: Australia, Azerbaijan, Albania, Gibraltar, Hong Kong, Jersey, Egypt, India, Iceland, China, Liechtenstein, Malaysia, New Zealand, Norway, Russia, Singapore, USA, Turkey, Switzerland, South Africa, Japan. But from my experience as a world traveller with almost all internetional simcards in the market used all these years, for non-EU based customers or without an EU mobile, for roaming within EU countries I recommend PIRANHA http://www.piranha-mobile.com/index....tegory&path=20 . http://www.eurekago.com/en/tariffs/ for roaming withinin EU countries. Piranha has significantly lower data rates but with data billing per 128kb (Eureka billing per 10kb. 0,25eur./mb within Europe) Eureka offers free incoming calls to 70countries (including all European countries and most of Asian countries)...and the most important? the rate to call their number prefix (+4207910) is very low! Eureka I think also accept USD payments (but not 100% sure) My above recommendation is only for non-EU based customers or without an EU mobile, for roaming within EU countries.: For customers seeking reliability (usually bussiness customers) I recommend Camel-platform simcards For customers seeking lower possible rates (usually private customers) I recommend: Piranha or EUREKA . (Eureka is a bit better, only because they don't charge for unaswered outgoing calls-MTC -Mobile Termination Charge- as Piranha does). PAY ATTENTION: for roaming within EU countries the first and only you first have to consider is "HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO CALL THE NUMBER ATTACHED TO EACH INTERNATIONAL SIMCARD" |
especially for low volume personal customers high rate termination travel simcards are good ONLY for roaming outside EU countries.
Roaming within any of the 27EU countries with any high termination travel simcards (such as IOM, ESTONIAN or Latvian numbers) you simply lose money, both you as a simcard owner, and more worst in most cases also the people calling you lose money (and they don't know it until the get their telephone bill!. For example in BRAZIL is one case of a non-EU country where the Wold Soccer Cup will take place this summer, where high termination simcards worth to have them with you. -CAMEL-plattform (3712) incoming calls: eur.0,00 ($0), outgoing calls: 0,50euro-billing/min. ($0,69/min. usd-billing simcards) ,data: 16,38euro /mb euro-billing sim($20,60/mb usd-billing) -TRAVELSIM platform (+3725) incoming calls: 0,25eur./min. ($0,35 usd-billing simcards) , outgoing: 0,75euro-billing/min. ($0,9/min. usd-billing simcards) , data: 25euro/mb euro-billing sim ($35/mb usd-billing cards) -IOM or Cloud9 platform* (+447) incoming: 0,14eur./min. euro-billing ($0.1124/min. usd-billing simcards) , outgoing calls: 0,46euro-billing/min. ($0,3924/min. usd-billing simcards) , data: 0,69euro/mb for euro-billing sim ($0,96/mb usd-billing cards) *rates from IOM or Cloud9 platform resellers are highly variable, those quoted above (for both euro & usd billing) are the lowest one found among all IOM or Cloud9 platform resellers. for euro billing lowest rates are from mysims2go http://www.mysims2go.com/tariffcalcu...iid=23&lang=en , for USD billing from CLOUD-ROAM http://www.cloud-roam.net/Default.as...dex=2&SIndex=1 |
for IOM or Cloud9 platform (+447) simcards, i personally stay away from both "big players"... both Ekit and Maxroam. especially their voice rates are unacceptable high.

Thank you for your recommendations fsotirop. I have been going back and forth between what would be a good compromise of ease of use and rates. Right now I'm leaning heavily towards Piranha. They have:
- a free US number (I'm US based, so callers don't have to worry about where I am) - very decent incoming and outgoing rates The way I see it is that with Estonian, Latvian, IOM, what have you numbers the callers pays a hefty premium, if they can reach the number in the 1st place. So yes, with Piranha you don't have free incoming, but it's still cheaper than calling Estonia & the likes. Am I missing something? -edit- I'm not concerned with data. If it's cheap I may use it, if not then nothing is lost. I do travel all over, not just one particular continent or region. My primary needs are voice and text/sms, being able to call the US and receive calls from the US. telna would be my 2nd choice, they have slight higher rates and the annual fee. |
It all depends on how and where you are roaming.
For limited roaming in some areas, Piranha is good. For Europe & US toggle counties Toggle is best, etc.. For the worldwide traveller, especially if you are using a dual sim phone, the Travelsims (airbaltic, onesimcard, Travelsims,...) are the best in my experience. - if +372 is expensive to call airbaltic has free UK number, with 0.15 PER call. - free incoming in 154 countries (even with 0 credit) - free forwarding to 154 countries (even with 0 credit) - most solid, stable, roaming I have seen - no credit expiration for 2 years with airbaltic And the advantage is that you will always be reachable on the same number as if in some countries another sim is preferable, you can forward your +372 for free to that other sim number. (best is dual sim anyway if you are serious about roaming). |
Thanks for your thoughts MBK. Now, if I'm really serious about roaming I'd get a sat phone. But I'm looking for a compromise that is easy for me, easy for the caller, and doesn't break the bank. I'm not looking for the absolute rock bottom price option, I want as cheap as possible without it getting too complicated for me, or costly for my callers.
I would say (with a high degree of certainty) that none of my callers (all US based) have cheap international dialing, or international dialing at all. I do have GoogleVoice and Betamax/Dellmont but I don't want to setup forwarding and such. Too many moving parts. So even the UK number for Airbaltic can be problematic. Credit on Piranha does not expire for over a year, which works for me. All of the above leads me to Piranha, unless holes can be poked in my reasoning or there's another provider out there that does the same but cheaper (or better, or more countries, or whatever) |

Thanks DRNewcomb. Telna is my 2nd choice, as mentioned in post 135 above. Rates are a little higher and they have the $19 annual fee. My cash outlay on a prepaid balance would never be more then $19, so if Piranha goes under I wouldn't lose much more than I would if telna goes under.

Here is some hard-earned wisdom:
TAKE TWO! ONE WILL BE BETTER.
Piranha is a good choice. You do not mention what phone you have. Having a second/different SIM will provide some hopefully failsafe protection if you need to be more sure of your ability to call out. A dualSIM phone makes that second SIM more practical and easier to use. |
I have and plan to use an iPhone4. Although it doesn't seem to support seamless callback all providers give you the USSD to use to make a call. It's a pain but something I can live with. Maybe there's an APP that will take a number from my phonebook and prepend and append the necessary strings to the number to be dialed. I know there are options to make an iPhone take a dual sim but that's too much for my use case.

Even for Europe roaming from US customers I don't recommend Toggle (except for heavy users), short exparation of the credit , plus 25UKpounds minimum topup . Even if US customers roam in Europe, I suggest Piranha or EVRIKA (Chezh republic +4207910) with very low termination rate to their numbers ($0.02 to $0.03/minute)..so you can forward a US DID number to their +4207910 via a voip provider (eg zadarma,, telecallmart, etc) with a very low connecting cost and free incoming calls to the simcard to all european countries, including SWitzerland, Turkey, Russia. Plus free incoming calls to some other non-european countries as China, Australia, SouthAfrica etc) For data only US customers roaming in Europe I strongly suggest https://gigsky.com with excellent prepaid plans on all European countries of $25.00 175 MB 7 Days $35.00 300 MB 14 Days $50.00 500 MB 30 Days But if small data sessions is the case, Piranha new data rates of $0,15/mb in most Euporean countries is a good alternative For very heavy data roaming users in Europe I suggest a Vodafone Italy prepaid simcard bought here http://www.mobipassport.com.au/Vodaf...-p/voda-eu.htm or here: http://www.europasim.com/epages/6335...ops%2F63355149 (same product) with €3 per day you get all round Europe: 500MB Internet (Speed reduced after first 500MB) 50 SMS (Additional SMS is €0.11/SMS) 25 min Outbound calls within EU (Additional usage €0.35/min) 25 min inbound calls within EU (additional usage €0.10/min) |

Furthermore, min reload is not 25 £ but 20£, which gives you 20£ + 10% = 22£ credit. Credit NEVER expires as long as you are using your SIM at least once every 4 months (call, sms or data charge). This means, if you want to be an extreme saver, that you never have to recharge your SIM as long as you have enough credit for this (ex: 1 data charge of 0.0002 every 4 months). Really, if you are making so little use of the SIM that a 20£ reload is too much, then I can't see how it would make sense to go through the trouble of ordering a roaming SIM. Just use your normal T-Mobile or AT&T plan for those few minutes you need. That said, of course if other non-toggle countries are part of your journey, other SIMS like Piranha should be taken into account. |

Hi hwa, not sure of what your travel plans are, if its to the Winter Olympics Piranha have just posted on there F&Qs. Rates look good. Anybody know if you are allowed to buy local.
" Piranha adds new network, (Rostelecom) which covers the Sochi area of Russia. Direct dial with very competitive roaming Data and SMS rates." |
There are two camps you see on this forum with respect to incoming calling rates. The first group wouldn't care if the roaming SIM provider gave you a country code 8816 prefix (iridium satellite phone) if the calls were free to them. "If you want to call me when I am out of the country, that's your problem."
The second camp, wants to absorb the cost that the caller would pay and is looking for the cheapest way to make the roaming call a local call for their caller. Those folks assume they will be paying something to forward the calls. Many of us have also had several roaming SIMs go belly up in the past and are sensitive of pricing structures that are "too good to be true." While we are cost aware, we shy away from the operating who offers free incoming calls on cruise ships. They simply won't be around very long. If I am going on a trip and looking for a solution for only that trip, I'd probably gamble, but I am also prepared to spend a little bit more roaming for a little more stability. I sent a friend on a trip with one of my SIMs and the carrier ceased operations while she was out of the country. Trust me this was the least technical friend I have. Bad idea! |

[QUOTE=MBK;43754]Keep in mind that I am talking about worldwide roaming (the subject of this thread), while you are talking about regional roaming.
But let's see: Onesimcard with callback (Single SIM - only onesimcard): US to UK US Incoming: FREE UK Landline: €0.07 incoming callback + FREE landline UK = €0.07 (+ one time €0.01 data to trigger the callback if not on WIFI) UK Mobile: €0.07 incoming callback + €0.005 mobile UK = €0.075 (+ one time €0.01 data to trigger the callback if not on WIFI) How do you do this with a just 1 sim? I wanna learn. Onesimcard with callback (dual-SIM - callback on 2nd local/regional SIM, showing +372 caller ID or any other caller ID): US to UK US Incoming: FREE UK Landline: FREE incoming callback + FREE landline UK = €0.00 (+ one time €0.01 data to trigger the callback if not on WIFI) UK Mobile: FREE incoming callback + €0.005 mobile UK = €0.005 (+ one time €0.01 data to trigger the callback if not on WIFI) Oh! This will be easier but do I need an Android/iPhone for this one? In any case, for data the best is a 2nd local SIM with local data bundles in the dual-sim phone (but if only to trigger the callbacks the Onesimcard is good enough). Canada to UK: same rates as US above. Hi MBK! I'm a new member here. Pardon me for any ignorance of forum rules as I have encountered this thread while doing a research on the benefits of using onesimcard and I saw this information you have provided amist all the argument with another member about the international SIM card you were using and another regional SIM card that bloke was seemingly supportive of. -------------------------------------------------------------- Onesimcard with callback (Single SIM - only onesimcard): US to UK US Incoming: FREE UK Landline: €0.07 incoming callback + FREE landline UK = €0.07 (+ one time €0.01 data to trigger the callback if not on WIFI) UK Mobile: €0.07 incoming callback + €0.005 mobile UK = €0.075 (+ one time €0.01 data to trigger the callback if not on WIFI) SMS UK using SIM menu: $0.15 SMS UK using Fishtext with WebSMS app on android: €0.03 (+ ~€0.03 data to send the SMS if not on WIFI) Onesimcard with callback (dual-SIM - callback on 2nd local/regional SIM, showing +372 caller ID or any other caller ID): US to UK US Incoming: FREE UK Landline: FREE incoming callback + FREE landline UK = €0.00 (+ one time €0.01 data to trigger the callback if not on WIFI) UK Mobile: FREE incoming callback + €0.005 mobile UK = €0.005 (+ one time €0.01 data to trigger the callback if not on WIFI) SMS UK using SIM menu: $0.15 SMS UK using Fishtext with WebSMS app on android: €0.03 (+ ~€0.03 data to send the SMS if not on WIFI) In any case, for data the best is a 2nd local SIM with local data bundles in the dual-sim phone (but if only to trigger the callbacks the Onesimcard is good enough). I intend to use onesimcard with a local callback card. I may also be considering using my current local prepaid card for data and receiving notifications of missed local calls to my international number, and this option could be useful at other countries. How do I go about doing the above callback at €0.07 incoming callback and without €0.01 for data to trigger it? Assuming I initiate a call to the recipient and I dialed the recipient's phone number with the country prefix together into the phone. Upon acknowledgement, the call will be hung up and I will be expecting a callback. However, whom would next call pan out and I am wondering whether I need 2 callback attempts to reach the recipient with my onesimcard and local callback card. How do I do this? Your help is greatly appreciated. Another thing is about using INUM, google voice and ipkall/kall8/anveo (but without the monthly fees, just pay as you go). How do I set this up to link with my onesimcard number? New Curious Member, James |
Best solution for data?
Many worldsims seem to be made for voice. Data is mostly a bit expensive.
The only sim width cheap data I've found so far is Piranha sim. Are there more good sims for data (EU + rest of Europe)? |
After many searchers have have not found any cheaper especially outside of the EU, and i see they have improved Data rates in Kuwait, Macau, Panama and Qatar, thats according to their last facebook ad. On another tact I am visiting the US in June, if there is anyone out there with a piranha Sim can they test the Data speeds in the US for me, as i intend to use it quite a bit. Thanks in advance.

Data advice for USA
Quote:
BUT make sure you understand how to choose which network you will want to use. T-Mobile and AT&T have different data rates and coverage. Know where you will be and how the coverage will or will not work for you. As far as I know, the only place you can choose which network to use in the USA is from the website. Know before you go. Choose before you lose [choice of coverage and rates]. |
TMobile rates seem to be a lot lower than ATT. My carrier in the U.S. IS TM. I have used TM all over the U.S. and, unless you will be in rural areas a lot, coverage should be fine. ATT has somewhat broader coverage. IF you are going to be in metropolitan areas, TM works very well.
Can't test data speed for you as I no longer have need for an intl. SIM. TMobile, U.S. has had "free" intl. roaming in 100+ countries for 18 months. (Data and text free, voice 20¢/min.) |
Thank you for info, i will keep the Piranha Sim on the T-Mobile network and update on return.
I received an email about rates in Canada, they seem to have lost Direct Dial, but they now have reduced rates on Call-Back, which are pretty amazing for roaming. |
As you come from UK, why don't you simply take a Three UK Sim card for the US? It roams on BOTH T-Mob and AT&T. I could verify this in 2014. Speed is up to 3G only. The US is a so-called feel at home country.
I know Three is tricky as a recommendation for the UK, but roaming in the US is great. UK domestic rates are much lower than AT&T's. Coverage depends not only on network but on the frequencies your devices works. AT&T is generally better. T-Mob on 1900 MHz in key markets on 3G, in other areas on 1700 MHz AWS which is not supported by many European devices. |
Quote:
Glad you got the email about Canada. So the rates are lower now, then? I did not have a record of what they were to compare. And now, no having to switch profile to get Rogers anymore. |
