I was in Lloret de Mar and bought a LLamaya prepaid sim card for 5 euro's with 5 euro credit on it. Topped it up with extra 10 euro and sent an sms to 22951 with internet1000 to receive 1000 mb data for 9 euro (ex 21% vat). Because i did watch tv my 1000mb were spend before the 30 days so I did resent internet500 to get an extra 500 mb for 5 euro. The only thing I had to do is to manualy make an apn. This was decribed in the folder from llamaya. Just make new apn with apn moreinternet. Worked in 5 minutes.

Thanks.

So it was easy to find the SIM at mobile shops?

This isn't one of those MVNOs that only sell SIMs online?

sretlow 11-05-2014 01:09

I went to the shop next to Vodafone. Behind the bus terminal on the road to the casino. But i've seen them also in other shops. Just look for a phone shop.

Lyca Mobile seems to have the best deal on prepaid data packs in Spain right now.

Quote:

4,5€ gives 250MB of Mobile Internet data
5,5€ for 600MB of Mobile Internet data
6,5 € for 1GB of Mobile Internet data
11,5 € for 2GB of Mobile Internet data
15 € for 3GB of Mobile Internet Data
30 days from the day purchased.
They'll also ship you a SIM card for free, even in another country (or at least I just requested 2 Spanish SIMs to be sent to me in Germany). You don't even need to enter a credit card or other payment details -- just an address.

It also appears you can top-up online, which is great given that 2 years ago when I was in Spain and using a CarreFour SIM, this simply wasn't possible (maybe they've since changed this).

Only immediate drawback I can see is that the SIM expires after 60 days of no activity, which is pretty short.

wco81 30-05-2014 23:36

Which network are they using?

Reported speeds and coverage?

peterdoo 31-05-2014 17:32

Lyca Spain is currently on the Movistar network.

dubrovnik4 19-12-2014 19:43

Anyone from Spain on this forum ? I'll be taking Lycamobile SIM card and I can put referrer number on the web-site. If you want me to put your number (I guess you get something ?), just send me private message here..

4G PAYG in Spain

Does anyone know which of the operators in Spain offer 4G / LTE on their PAYG networks, and if they charge any more for using 4G?

I will need to buy a data PAYG SIM for about 5Gb per month and would prefer to use 4G if it's available in the areas where I will be.

Thanks in advance.

wco81 12-01-2015 20:15

Don't mean to promote another site but this site seems to have some current info.

http://prepaidwithdata.wikia.com/wiki/Spain

wolfbln 13-01-2015 18:27

It's ok. because it's the best site for data in English right now :)

But i don't have problems to write Spain's 4G/LTE situation on this forum again: 4G/LTE is only available in major towns so far.
On prepaid it's only available for a surcharge on the network operators, not the MVNOs.
movistar and orange: only for contract plans; Vodafone: on some Yuser prepaid plans. Yoigo: on one prepaid plan so far.

You need to know that you pay a big surchage for 4G/LTE in Spain on PAYG so far. Better check before, if it really is available at your specific location.

peterdoo 14-01-2015 10:56

When Vodafone announced the "Vodafone Internacional Smartphone" SIM they mentioned that it would support 4G. 15€ for the SIM including 1GB and 60 minutes calls to 35 countries (max 30 days):
http://www.vodafone.es/particulares/...repago/?tab=03

For 3G data in Spain lycamobile.es seems to be one of the most economic offers this month (Movistar network but no tethering):
1 GB for 3,75€, 2 GB for 7€, 3 GB for 12,50€ (max 30 days).
To get this price, one has to activate a special offer before activating a data pack, sending SMS with the word PLANAHORRO to 2525.
http://www.lycamobile.es/es/bundle?id=2
SIMs are available in many local shops like Telecor, HolaMobi, Small World, Europhil, newspaper/tabacco shops, gas stations and Post offices.

This is strange. Because Vodafone doesn't mention 4G on this tariff with one word on its website. It's quite in contrast to their "yu" line on which 4G is heavily marketed.

The announcement of their new tariff late last year didn't mention 4G either. See here for example: http://ahorro.acierto.com/movil/voda...nutos-15-euros

Last but not least a Google combination of Vodafone Smartphone Internacional and 4G (the term LTE is not so known in Spain) doesn't lead to any hits.

EDIT: This is really Vodafone's biggest secret:
http://www.xatakamovil.com/vodafone/...o-los-consumes

There are very few prepago tariffs open for 4G/LTE and they don't feature it. I don't get it. Thanks for the info.

Go with Tuenti. It has been excellent for me in every way.

peterdoo 12-06-2015 14:01

Tuenti started activating 4G to all the customers a few days ago:
https://www.tuenti.com/movil/soporte...da?id=94415728

There is also a special promotion for additional 1GB at 4€ valid until 25th of September.

It seems like we will see some more MVNOs starting offering 4G on prepaid in the next weeks.

UKKate 04-03-2017 10:15

Hi there. I'm new to the site and hoping someone can give me some up to date information please.
My family has an apartment in Spain and we visit a few times a year for between a few days and up to three weeks at a time. We have a mobile router permanently there. We're looking for a data only sim card that allows video streaming (a lot seem not to), that we can top up when we need.
Currently we go to the local locatorio and buy a prepaid card by Spotfav, usually 10GB costs us €39 and is valid for up to 28 days. This is usually enough for a three week holiday, with the whole family online.
Does anyone know a better solution please?

ggking7 04-03-2017 14:08

I've had great luck with Tuenti the last few times I've been to Spain. I haven't tried video streaming but I think the chances of it working on that network are excellent.

wco81 04-03-2017 18:38

Does Vodafone ES offer any kind of roaming option for data?

I'm going for 10 days in Spain and a couple of days at the end in France.

I thought Vodafone in other countries offered this as an add on or something for their prepaid products.

peterdoo 07-03-2017 11:54

As far as I know there is still no free roaming included on spanish prepaid offers.

You might try Simyo.es which gives 10GB @ €30 for max. 30 days. One can buy a new data pack (same or different size) as soon as the previous one is completelly used before 30 days are over.

As far as I know simyo allows streaming and connection sharing. The coverage is Orange, the same as Spotfav. Simyo SIMs are a bit more difficult to find. They are often available in the big Carrefour markets or some smaller phone shops. Here is a list of some shops (there are more) where normally you should be able to find a simyo prepaid SIM:

Wow those are great deals. Mundo SIM gets your full 4G/LTE?

Hopefully the other carriers improve their offerings.

peterdoo 15-06-2017 09:04

Yes, Mundo is full 4G/LTE, like Simyo Tuenti and Vodafone yu.

There are many other good prepaid offers in Spain, like 5GB / 10€ or 10GB / 20€. Read after "Mejor tarifa de tarjeta prepago" on the following page:

https://www.xatakamovil.com/mercado/...verano-de-2017

For those that only need data this summer, there are some summer specials ( https://www.xatakamovil.com/tag/verano-2017 ):
- Simyo one time 10 GB/30 days gift.
- Tuenti triple GB (3GB/6€, 12GB/14€).
- Orange Mundo double GB.
- Vodafone yu double GB.

wco81 15-06-2017 19:09

Lot of data, just in time for no roaming charges too. I wasn't sure if I'd visit Biarritz from San Sebastian but I might do it now.

Anyone use Tuenti on an iPad, including tethering? Their app. looks like it's more for iPad.

Carrefour Movil, which became Spain’s first MVNO when it launched on 27 October 2006, has announced that it is planning to terminate its service on 31 December 2017. The supermarket-backed virtual operator is inviting affected customers to port their numbers to an alternative provider with immediate effect, and notes that a deal is in place with host network Orange Espana, which will allow users to move to Orange, or one of its sub-brands Jazztel and Simyo and receive a seamless service.

Simyo has improved the pricing:
700MB 3 €
1.7GB 6 €
4GB 10.50 €
10GB 12,5 €
20GB 17 €
25GB 28 €

So I've used my 12 GB summer bundle for 10 days, used about 4 GB. Hotels have had good wifi so I haven't used it as much as I could. But current hotel room only gets 3G so using Wifi.

I drove across the border to Biarritz. Only get 3G on Bouygues, full signal along the waterfront. But only under 10 Mbps down.

Plus no tethering while roaming on Bouygues. Tried playing with settings and it says to contact Movistar.

Really a disappointing first experience with RLAH. I'd been tethering two iPhones to my iPad with the Tuenti SIM so roaming at 3G without tethering in NOT the same experience as at home.

Maybe because it's an MVNO? Maybe the actual Movistar SIM would roam at LTE with tethering?

Or maybe better luck with Orange and Vodafone since those carriers are also in France?

Oh well, I think I probably won't top up for a trip to Germany and Austria next month.

wco81 19-07-2017 08:59

Flying out of Spain back to the US, connecting in Amsterdam.

Tuenti roams on KPN 3G. Good signal strength but speed is less than 3 Mbps.

Looks like tethering will work, unlike in France. But at low speeds, I'm using Wifi, which isn't that much faster.

Tuenti uses a different IMSI in roaming, not the Movistar one. So it is possible that they limit roaming to 3G and have different roaming partners.

According to the EU Regulation no operator should be allowed to block tethering, does not matter whether in roaming or not.

Orange Mundo SIM was blocking tethering in roaming last year. I don't know, what Simyo does. Both of them do 4G roaming in many countries.

wco81 22-07-2017 20:27

Back in the US.

Tuenti roams on T-Mobile 3G, getting about 2.3/1.7 Mbps.

Oh well better than nothing.

wco81 25-08-2017 06:29

Back in the US, it roamed on T-Mobile and the speeds were okay, nothing to write home about but I didn't have to tether to my iPhone or look for Wifi.

Now I'm in Austria via MUC and it's still working, speeds are 2-3 Mbps. It's approaching 2 months since I ordered this. Tuenti has sent me several emails, including several to recharge. Every time I go to a new country, it sends me instructions on how to set up roaming.

I don't know why it's still working. It was only suppose to last 30 days. If it roamed at LTE speeds in other European countries, I definitely would have recharged.

I still bought a local SIM for Austria.
