Thanks so much for the prompt reply! That 155.libero.it link isn't working for me right now, but it might be because I'm at work. If you don't mind PM'ing me the info I would greatly appreciate it.
Also silly question but is receiving SMS free between Wind subscribers? What about receiving international txts? Finally is there a web portal one can use from North America in order to send txts to a Wind subscriber? Something else I wanted to ask... Have any of you here tried Wap/i-mode™ NoLimit for 3 Euro/month? I'm a bit confused how the i-mode thing works... Right now I use Opera to browse sites and check my email thru the Gmail WAP client. Can I do that through Wap/i-mode or do I have to go through the Wind homepage for all my email/browsing? |
Sms reception is always free, actually there's no portal to send sms to wind.
Important: from 17th november the wind/wap/i-mode no limit option will die, and will be (automatically) replaced with the "new mega 10 ore", for 2€/month you have 10 hours of wap browsing outside wind's wap portal, and to enter into the wap portal you'll pay 50€cent .... |
Thanks for the heads up Giuseppe. I think it says you can only subscribe to the i-mode no limit up to 12 Oct 2008, which is the exact day I fly into Rome! So hopefully I can take advantage of this. I hope they are still giving away Wind sim cards at Fiuminico

Hey guys, a bit confused about setting up my phone for Wind internet. I followed the link above (http://155.libero.it/pls/portal30/w155.confcell) and looked up settings for my Sony Ericsson w580i. I think the ones that pertain to me are WAP GSM, WAP GPRS, and Internet. Each of them involve creating a Data Account and Internet Profile in my phone for the 3 different settings, one called LIBERO WAP GSM, the second LIBERO WAP GPRS, and the last LIBERO Internet. But each of the instructions end with selecting one of these profiles to enable it in my phone. I obviously can't select all 3 profiles, so which one am I supposed to choose?
|
Use Libero WAP GPRS for on-phone browsing when you have GPRS, EDGE or 3G service. Use Libero WAP GSM when you have service but not GPRS or better (I assume it'll use circuit-switched data).
Use LIBERO Internet when you're tethering with your laptop, or if you have a smartphone. You can usually select the profile to use when tethering in your dial string. You don't have to physically select it on your phone. |
damn just landed in Fiuminico and no Wind booths to be found anywhere outside baggage claim. I asked around and someone said their promotion had ended. Guess I'm going to have to buy my own SIM card! :P
|
Okay so I bought a SIM card from a WIND store on Via Nationale near my hotel. They charged me €10 (which includes €5 credit) plus €5 recharge for a total of €15. Pretty sure the €5 recharge was a trick for me to pay extra as I don't think I'll need it, but whatever.
I'm a bit confused about the i-mode thing though. The guy told me that I need a special phone for that, is that true? otherwise the data charges on Super Senzo Scatto are €0.30 per kb, is that correct? |
-If you haven't a mobile phone branded i-mode you can't use it:( , it's true unfortunately.
-0,30 euro/kb is correct |
Quote:
0.30 € (30€cent) is the (old) cost to access the wap portal (and 0.03€/kb outsite the portal) 0.003€ (0.3€cent) is the price for kilobyte for internet |
I'm trying to get my codice fiscale, but it seems that's not possible. When I write my name, surname, etc. and than click on "calcola il tuo codice fiscale", writes next:
ATTENZIONE Il numero generato corrisponde alle regole del D.M. del 12.3.1974 Non si può avere l'assoluta certezza dell'esattezza del codice perché nel raro caso in cui il sistema genera due codici identici (caso di due persone con nome e cognome molto simili, nati lo stesso giorno, nello stesso comune), il Ministero delle Finanze provvede alla sostituzione di uno dei numeri con una lettera progressiva. So, what should I do? |

Ok, thanx, but how can I get my codice fiscale? When it says: there could be another person whose data could generate the same CF...., I don't know what to do, because I don't have any option. :(

I think this was in this post somewhere, but I note that 5 and 10 euro topups are once again available on the Vodafone Italia website. So someone must have decided that forcing people to pay 15 minimum was counterproductive. So: Bravo, Vodafone.

TIM MaxxiALICEWeb Facile Rech
Can anyone advise how to deactivate TIM`s MaxxiALICEWeb Facile Recharge? I am aware there is separate post and info on that prepared by Effendi, but it does not work;
I was in Italy for one week and used TIM data card /only TIM was available and had no time to look for other options /; It worked great with my Nokia E61; I used it for Internet in Nokia as well as in my laptop and for internet calls via skype and fringe; Before I left Italy I tried to send sms and deactivate it; I was sending sms to 4916 and 40916 with text PRO FACILE OFF; OFF; I was getting a reply on syntax error in the request; Actually I am back in Poland; Can I do it myself via internet? I registered on the webpage and have info on the offer, my data etc.; /https://www.119selfservice.tim.it/ I do not know Italian, so some guidance would be welcomed; What is the international number of TIM`s helpdesk? Among others I tried to call +39.3399.119 using landline; I was also trying to dial 00 800 number; |
Maxxi Alice Web Facile does NOT automatically renew, so at the end of the 30 days the offer is not working anymore, no need to do anything.

Hi,
I'm traveling to Italia in March from the US and I'm trying to sort out my phone situation. I have a Blackberry 8310 from AT&T, and I will be making calls back to the US to landlines and mobiles (also AT&T). I'll also be calling landlines and mobiles in Italia, and I may need to call US cell phones roaming in Italia. I also will be texting to these people. Lastly, I have brief airport stops in Amsterdam and Paris, where I would like to make a call back to the US. I'm going to turn off data on my phone, so I don't need a data plan. What is a good SIM card to get, and where can I get it before I leave? I can only seem to find a SIM card from Telestial on the internet, and something form the Isle of Mann on ebay... Thanks for any insight |
Any simcard can do what you need. Calling the US won't be too cheap, about 30 cent/min (plus setup fee) in the better situations.
I suggest you to buy the simcard in Italy, it's much easier, cheaper and better. |
thanks a lot Effendi; now I understand in full your other post on prepaids in Italy;
would it be possible to use this sim card in future? I may be back in summer and if not next winter |

Having said that sim cards are very easy to get and cheap or free in Italy so if you don't want to go to the trouble of keeping it active you can get a new one whenever you go. |
Italian simcards usually have a validity of 11 or 12 months (plus 1 month of "grace period") from the last refill. Buying a new one is not a big problem, anyway.
|
As I mentioned in another thread, Vodafone cards can be topped up with 5 euro a year to keep them going. However, if you don't have an Italian credit card, an Italian PayPal account is required. No big deal, just create one (give the address of your hotel) and then you transfer the money (plus a small safety margin to cover the fees) to the Italian PayPal account from your PayPal account in another country Then go to the vodafone.it website and top up using PayPal.
Either that, or buy several small top-ups at a tabacchi before you leave Italy and keep them with you to top up from home once a year (be aware they expire after a few years). |
I was hoping I could get it before I went over there, is there any place to get it in the US?
If I have to get it in Italy it's no big deal. Are these available at Fiumicino Airport or at Termini Station by any chance? Thanks for the help! |
Buy it in Italy, it's MUCH better.
At Fiumicino there's a 3 and a Vodafone shop (Terminal 1), plus a multi-brand store (Terminal 3) Shopping Gallery - Aeroporti di Roma - Rome Airports Shopping Gallery At Termini there are surely other shops too. |

Thanks for the advice - I will wait and purchase at the airport (I land at Terminal 1). I have a GSM phone, so it looks like "3" won't be an option. For calls to the US, do you recommend Vodafone, TIM or Wind? |
I think it costs more or less the same, and in any case quite expensive. Ask the clerk to activate you a international option to call the US at cheaper rates. Every operator has one (f.e. for Wind it's called "Call Your Country")
|
hey Effendi,
I bought a TIM card at the FCO airport for 10 Euro. I put it in my phone, but I don't think it's working (phone is unlocked blackberry). When I type *123# it says "servizio no permesso in italia," and when I try to dial it says "call forwarding - conditional." It does say I have 5 Euro credit when I txt CREDITO to 40916, but they never even told me what the number was...! Do you know how I get this to work? Sorry to ask you to play tech support, but I'm stuck and at a language barrier (they barely understood sim card at the store). |
Quote:
Have you called 4916? |
I got it to work, but I seem to be flying through the balance, even just for txt's to America. How do I reload it?
|
Go to any tabacchi.
|
I know this problem....this is when your card isn't registered, so when your identity card or passport hasn't been registered by TIM. You have to wait some days (about 1-2 but sometimes also 3...). The number *123# to know the credit is only actived abroad. ;-)

hey guys,
Thanks for the advice, this forum was a big help during my trip! I (unfortunately) have been back in the states for about 3 weeks now, but just the other day I recieved a charge for 5 Euro on my credit card from telecom italia...does anybody know what this might be for? I ran out of credit on my sim card half way through my trip and never bothered to recharge. I was just about to throw it away when I saw this random charge. Did they refill it for me, and do they usually do this? Mets |
You mean you have been recharged? It could be some promotion or someone who refilled the wrong number! :D
