Update - I received mine today in the regular letter but I hadn't noticed it earlier in the snail-mail box - the envelope was really flat :-).
I haven't activated the SIM yet.
I'm going to make a partial balance transfer to the new SIM in order to have both +423 and +44 SIMs active simultaneously - has anyone tried if it is really possible?

received mine yesterday, tranferred half the balance to the new card and both are still working.

I did notice on some incoming call that the caller id did not show up.

The caller id dependes on many factors. I have generally noticed that when calling from non voip providers the id is shown more often.

Yes, this is more a problem of the calling provider rather than of the SIM-card. Most of the very cheap providers here also do not transmit the caller ID as they route on some very strange ways i suppose ;)

BTW I can see caller ID in United Mobile+ when calling from Betamax clones

Worked ok yesterday for me. Had 30 euros on the +423 card and split it 15 / 15 with the +44 Jersey card. Hope you get a reply from customer services soon!

As someone offerred a link to jersey telekom some post's before, I had a look to the pages of jersey telekom too. If this is realy the carrier of UM+ you find something very interresting following this link...

http://www.jerseytelecom.com/templat...B.aspx?id=1411

It says, they will offer free mobile internet access from August 16th on. Lets see what happens.

I also upgraded one of my two UM-Simcards but it haven't arrived yet. Interresting times as a UM user. Funny enough, here in Switzerland they still sell the "old" UM +423 at the post offices. Wondering if they will also offer the UM+ in Switzerland or keep on going with UM +423.

At the moment they have a "summeroffer" that is a Sony Ericsson K520i including the UM +423 SIM-card and 25 Swiss Francs of Balance for retailprice of 99.00 Swiss Francs...

Has anyone in the US that ordered the sim received it? As mentioned earlier, they did not include the zipcode when they mailed it on Friday. So, I am thinking that may be causing the delay. I'll probably wait a couple of more days or so, before I contact them to see if they can cancel it and mail a replacement. Usually the US mail sorting facilities can still deliver mail without a zipcode, but it takes a little longer. So, I am thinking that's what the problem is.

GadgetKen 01-08-2007 19:32

Haven't gotten mine yet but not in a rush. PDF file of the online order form for me shows the zip code but in front of the state. Don't know if it made it on to the actual mailing label. Will let you know when I get it.
On the thought of the +423 card remaining as an offer, that's an interesting thought. Might keep a minimum balance on my old UM card as a backup or if I am in a country where the rates are cheaper with the old card.

I got my card delivered yesterday in Toronto. It was mailed out on 7/27.

Bossman 01-08-2007 21:19

Same here...the PDF file of the online order does not have the zip code. it also has my house number after the street name. Of course, I am assuming it goes on to the mailing label exactly as showing in the PDF. Not in much of a rush, but if I get it I will test it out in Aruba, Cuaracao, and St. martin in a couple of weeks when I head out on a Southern Caribbean cruise. If not, I'll just use my +423 as originally planned. First, I will burn up the $13 credit on my yackie sim (even if it means using it on the cruise ship's very high rates) though. Before they go completely out of business. Since, it looks does not look like they are going anywhere.

TheMadBrewer 01-08-2007 23:49

Got mine today (Los Angeles). There was a zip code but no state on the address in European format, e.g. 900xx Los Angeles

Date was July 27.

I have about Euro 11 on the +423 SIM. She Who Must Be Obeyed is going with a girlfriend to Europe in October and if I can scare up an unlocked phone I might let here take that and burn it up -- if they continue service that long :)

Keighleyboy 01-08-2007 23:56

I have already Upgraded my UM +423 to UM+ SIM before the July 31st deadline, but i have noticed that they are still allowing free upgrades on their website even now their deadline has passed

GadgetKen 02-08-2007 03:37

Got my card today (August 1st). Was sent regular airmail on July 28th, and got here quickly. All the address information was there, even though the zip code and street number were out of order for a US address label.

Activated it with the PUK code online, transferred over my entire old balance, and sent a test text message on AT&T/Cingular USA to the UK. Got a successful SMS reply from the UK and a balance notification message with a 364 day expiration date. This will give me a larger number of calling minutes for an upcoming trip to the UK than I would have had with my old United Mobile card. Plus the new card doesn't have SMS problems in the US like the old one did.

Looking forward to the data service in the fourth quarter. Will be one of the very few international prepaid cards that offer data. Would like to try this when offered because data on a cellphone can be used in many more places than wi-fi can be used.

"She who must be obeyed" sounds like the barrister's knickname for his wife in the Rumpole of the Bailey series that used to be on British television. :)

Free is a good price for this upgrade. Would probably not have considered upgrading without this offer because the cost of the card and shipping would have negated the call savings per minute for me.

DRNewcomb 02-08-2007 04:00

Since it looks like my 2nd Riiing SIM is RIP, I'll probably transfer part of my balance and keep both the remaining Riiing SIM and the UM+ SIM active. There are places where I think the Riiing will still work better.

prion 02-08-2007 12:11

Got mine today. Tried to call it via betamax. I was charged twice but the phone did not rang at all. The same with another voip company. I was unable to complete the call via other voip routes....

You may want to try again. Their system was down for a good portion of the night.

prion 02-08-2007 13:15

Ok thanks. I did try and it worked this time. But, I do not have caller id no matter which route I have tried.
Not even with OTE (Greek main telco)

Still two Uk voip companies do not connect though. Betamax is fine.

I had the same experience (Voipcheap to UM+), but was not charged for the call (tried twice). I was able to retrieve my balance.
I tried the same route (Voipcheap) to call UM CS, and they told me that they are having a problem with the system and that engeneers are working on it.
CS said that it would probably take until the end of the week, that's tomorrow :-), so I guess it will be something for monday or so...

Anyway. Voipcheap to UM+ is only 8ct/min (60/60), not bad.

United Mobile no longer selling cards with +423 prefix

Hi,

If you try to purchase a new SIM card from UM on their website, they don't let you choose if you want the old card or the new card. I think this isn't fair. Some people may want the old card because you get better rates in certain countries using the +423 card.

Also, did anyone else get a free UM+ calling card for being one of their "best clients"? It came with 10 Euro calling credits, which is a nice gift, but the letter makes it sound like you have to give up your old card to take advantage of this offer. I emailed customer service asking if I could keep both cards but so far I haven't received an answer.

As it looks to me the want to say goodbey to the +423 card otherwise they would not have started the the trading of old cards to new ones.

Fair or not if they decide not to offer any +423 cards anymore it's their choice and there must be a reason for that.
As many people have written they do not tranfer the complete credit on the +423 card to the +44 card. So whenever there is still credit on then +423 card I asume they will not switch it off.
someone from CS did tell me that switchoff of cards is done by hand and not by an automated system.

Bossman 02-08-2007 17:55

Not surprised by that at all. They must have just taken it off. As of late last week, you could still get the +423 card on their website. If you really want it though, you should be able to get it via 3rd party.

Even though they allow one to still have the +423 card, I have the feeling they will shut them off in the not too distant future.

I think they (UM) misjudged what customers would do.
I indeed also did not transfer the complete callcreedit-amount to UM+, so giving away UM+ for free will only cost them money.
This way they may be only able to reduce the active UM cards to probably only 50% or so. Maybe they have a problem with the number of users on their platform and reducing with 50% might be the problem? Just a guess... We'll never know.

prion 02-08-2007 18:37

I think that if they wanted to completely abandon the old card they would force someone to transfer all the balance and not only part of it.

MATHA531 02-08-2007 18:45

Well I think they discovered, thought or whatever that fewer and fewer people were using the +423 cards due to the unbelievably high price that telcoms instituted to call Liechtenstein mobiles...the question still remains why these prices went up so high so quickly and who is ultimately responsible.

As I have noted, it is interesting that on those services which cannot distinguish one +44 card from another, prices to UK mobiles in some cases remain much higher than say prices to German or French mobiles (see cbw and enlinea rates to UK mobiles)...also my cheap ld service in the USA (1016868 does not seem able to complete calls to either Jersey or Isle of Man mobiles (get a fast vusy signal!)....and then there is the problem still not apparently resolved that when the phone is off, the caller gets a message, at least here in the USA when indeed you are using a service that can complete a call to the Jersey number, "your international call cannot be completed as dialed. Please check the number and dial again or ask your operator for assistance."

What givess? : (did notify UM customer service of this but have not received a response)...

prion 02-08-2007 19:03

I also have the same problem from here when the phone is off. I think they will fix it. They are just at the first stages of the new card. Please let us know what the reply to your question Matha

meir 02-08-2007 19:03

I had again the audio issue as I had reported a few days ago. I was at the moment roaming on O2 Czech. Somebody from Switzerland called me and could hear only "Bzzz" sound. Luckly I had his caller ID stored in my phone. Dont know what this can be?

mattm 02-08-2007 23:34

Doh!

I just upgraded to UM+, and couldn't find the activation link...so I called CS. The CS agent told me that they were recommending that customers not transfer their whole balance yet, because there are "problems" with the UM+ cards that won't be fixed until "next week". Its a good thing he told me this, because it turns out that the UM+ card doesn't roam in the Dominican Republic -- my main reason for having this card!

Effendi 03-08-2007 07:52

I hope they will sove these "problems" soon, I'm leaving for Georgia on the 10th, I'd like to use the UM+ (fortunately I've Travelsim too)

Bossman 03-08-2007 10:31

I received my card yesterday 08/02. I was able to activate and transfer half of the balance on my +423 card without any problems.

Keighleyboy 03-08-2007 13:44

I think United Mobile have partnered with Jersey Telecom for commercial reasons.

Giving customers choice in prices, telephone prefix that they can be reached on, where to roam, plus extra services later in the year such as data.

This probably why they let existing customers upto a deadline upgrade to the UM+ SIM card to see what their customer base would do and what feedback they would get. As no-one has to spend anything to get the new card and no-one loses out by not being able to keep the old card.

So in the future they might give everyone the option to buy a UM +423 and/or UM +44 cards (otherwise why would they have to seperate name for their cards)

Keighleyboy 03-08-2007 13:46

I requested my upgrade on 30th July 2007, the post mark on the letter is 30th July 2007 and i have received it today 3rd August 2007

Keighleyboy 03-08-2007 13:47

Caller ID is hit and miss, some carriers showing it when calling UM+ and some don't

Keighleyboy 03-08-2007 13:48

The only feature UM+ won't do is Call Waiting

UM +423 still allows Call Waiting

Bossman 03-08-2007 14:22

As of today, when my number is called it says it's not a working number (Phone on or off), also when I try outgoing calls (both tmobile and At&T), it says Your SIM card has not been activated yet. You will be connected to cuts. service. Please wait...

BTW, it all worked fine yesterday. Outgoing/incoming, SMS, caller ID, etc.

Bossman 03-08-2007 14:30

All the international sims (UM, yackie, freeglobalsim) and some local sims I have had come with call waiting deactivated by default. I usually had to activate it through the phone's menu. Have you tried that? When I try the call waiting menu on my V551, it says request not successful.

You have to activate the new number on the web site...click on my orders and you will see your new +44 number listed and it will say shipped and to be activated...click on to be activated and it will bring you to a screen asking for the PUK code...enter the PUK code and the new number will be activated...go back to balance transfer and you will then be able to balance transfer.

Hope that helps.
