Welcome aboard!

It is NOT clear from your link what you mean by "[they are moving to UK number.]

Their SIM still seems to be a United Mobile number country code 423....

It was THOUGHT that the "new GlobalSim Holiday" would be something DIFFERNT. Do you have a better link for that product? Last we heard was my note that this product would be DELAYED.

The German home page says their new SIMs will be available starting in May of 2006.

Please check later.

I know global sim were moving away from UM a few months ago ... as were all distributors, they cannot survive with the new UM strategy. It seems the Callkey product is the best bet at the moment as a general Global sim ... so many of the old UM distributors have moved in that direction, with a couple taking a risk with the unreliable 09 (but improving).

Call key have free incoming calls, but as we all know there is no such thing as free incoming calls ... it costs the providers, but the hide that to make the service attractive. Nothing beats FREE INCOMING CALLS. To offset the cost, they make the outgoing calls more expensive. So Call Key distributors try to offset their incoming costs by having a small monthly bill, thus making it possible to have cheaper outgoing calls. I know that Callkey use two systems for triggering a call ... which makes them more reliable on that front. (some countries stop triggering from occuring in the normal way .. thus blocking callback)

What new UM strategy? Selling the SIMs on their own site?

Yes ... the started with using distributors to get the ball rolling ... and then ditched them when they thought they were big enough.

But many saw it coming as UM has a bad reputation in the telecom world.

Sadly their new sales force havent been able to get the sales ... they were hoping to sell direct to other big companies like easyjet, or thomas cook ... along those lines. But thier unethical behavior has burned their bridges with their old distributors, not many want to deal with them anymore.

So now you will see them pushing hard to advertise ... this is their attempt to go global ... and many believe they will fail ... as Callkeys strategy to look after their distributors in their nich markets seems to be working.

But time will tell... it may work.
