Actually tmobile payg is the only US carrier that does not charge for incoming SMS/MMS. All of them do offer some kind of unlimited SMS package for a fee though. They were supposed to start charging for both incoming SMS and MMS as of the beginning of August. But, they have not started yet.

I guess this is another difference between US and the rest of the world. Whereas most of the globe EXPECTS fee inbound SMS, even the international cards have it, most in the US AFAIK expect to pay for inbound SMS. My Verizon postpay and prepay charged them; T-MO postpaid also charges extra.

Yes, I realise that paying for incoming SMS is accepted in the US because it's an "obvious" situation :) and, as Bossman said, T-Mo prepaid is the only exception from this rule. Nevertheless, I think that paying for incoming SMSes is really unfair. You can choose not to answer a voice call or not to accept to receive an MMS, but you're not able to reject an SMS.

Hello,

any news about this topic? Does T-Mobile USA now charges incoming SMS for their prepaid-subscriber? Or still not?

Regards,
Klaus

Sorry

Sadly, T-MO US prepaid now charges 5 cents US to receive an SMS. Still 10 cents to receive. Not sure of MMS price to receive; sending is 25 cents US, I believe.

POSTpaid customers have several packages from which to choose.
