Adding another phone that doesn't work: Benq-Siemens EF81

When calling direct or from telephone book:
"Service unavailable" and mobile turns off / crashes

When calling from the UM menu:
After the message "Calling [telephone number]" the phone turns most of the time off. Only 3 times (of over 15 tries) I got the message with the balance and the callback.

When the phone is off, the number is not recognized and I get a message the call cannot be completed and to check the number! Can't set up voicemail (although they gave me a temporary pin for voicemail).

I get the same response (that the number does not exist) even when the phone is on or the call does not get through. Tried many providers (local and international). I suppose it is a temporary problem. I can get through cs (+447937099911) though

I think it's not the phones problem, it's UM+... a friend of mine had exactly the same problems but after 2 days all works perfectly. He contacted the customer care and they told him they are having problems almost with all activations, we just need to be patient, it seems they solve those problems too...

I would agree, this is no Yackie fiasco...UM has provided very good service during the hey day of its +423 existance....I suspect they weren't quite ready to go with the +44 card but they saw an alarming trend of a loss of business what with the competition and the sky rocketing termination fees so they felt it was necessary to protect their market to bring out the product perhaps before it wasn't completely tested and ready.

I have a great deal of confidance this will be a very good product.

So far it works fine with SonyEricsson Z520a and Motorola V635.

The Nokia 1100 also doesn't work with UM+, only SIM menu based dialling

(I know this maybe off the subject of the thread, but...) The only phone i have and know to work perfectly with all international SIM cards is the Nokia 6610i. UM +423, UM+, GT-SIM euro and aus, 0044 on CallKey, TravelSIM, 09 Mobile, etc..

I don't know as i don't have these phone models.

It seems this Jersey Mobile based SIM has more handset compatability than Isle of Mann SIMs but not as much UM +423 and 09 Mobile have

In time UM should have a list of working handsets or a thread on this Forum should start a list

yep! They need some time. And, we all know this is a reputable company unlke yackie. A call to cust. service last night got my sim working again. As already mentioned, they are having some problems with all activations. He had to go in and reactivate mine. Via some long distance carriers, and voicestick, I still get the message that this is not a working number though.

Outgoing calls cannot be made via my V195 and SLVR L7. Could not even get past the services option on via the sims menu on the L7. So, not usable for outgoing in the L7. It works in the V551 and Nokia 3120. Actually, all the callback sims I have tried workd in these 2 phones.

Hello, yesterday I've received my UM+ sim card and I can post some impressions.
First of all, sorry for my English, I have few chances to practice! ;)
I've registered the sim on "my account" on UM website typing the PUK code. The sim works perfectly with incoming and outgoing calls, and displays the available amount of credit during the callback. I've tested it with few phones: everything is all right with Motorola V3 and Samsung Z300; using a Nokia 3310, it is necessary to call using the sim menu, but outgoing calls can be done. Also an old Motorola cd920 works correctly, but doesn't display credit. The only phone that doesn't allow outgoing calls is Nokia 6510: direct calls are impossible, so I try using the sim menu, but it's no use: there is always the same message that sounds like: "Sorry, but this doesn't seem to be a valid number", with all the numbers I try with. Another Nokia 6510 of a friend has the same behaviour (version 4.12, one of the latest). I've been writing to the customer care about this problem.
My +447937... number is invisible to the people I call, but the most annoying trouble is that, if I try to call my UM+ number while the phone is switched off, the automatic voice doesn't say it's unreachable, but it just says the number doesn't exist. This isn't good, since people who call me may think they have a wrong number.
I hope my first impressions can be useful. Bye!
