(from Wikipedia) Abkhazia is a de facto independent republic which is officially part of Georgia. It is located on the eastern coast of the Black Sea, bordering the Russian Federation to the north. Within the internationally recognised borders of Georgia, Abkhazia borders the provinces of Mingrelia and Svaneti to the east. Abkhazia's independence is not recognized by any international organization or country and it is recognised as an autonomous republic of Georgia, with Sukhumi as its capital.
Talking about GSM networks, Abkhazia is not covered by any of the 3 Georgian operators, but it has two GSM network operators. The main operator is Aquafon (owned by Russian Megafon at 50%) which runs a GSM 900 network with the best coverage of the small country. In 2006 a second operator started its service: it's called A-Mobile. No coverage should be available in the south at the still not so safe border with Georgia.
